Background info

The cosy classic houseboat Res Nova is an old Dutch cargo ship dating from around 1920. You can still see where the skipper family used to live, in the backroom with authentic woodcarving. Now, the boat is made as comfortable and spacious as possible.

Don’t expect a modern apartment – it will always be a classic boat. But there’s central heating everywhere, and if you play some nice records (or your MP3) and light up the cosy wood fireplace, you’re home!

The peace and quiet in the green harbour of Amsterdam North is rare for Amsterdam, but you’ll be in the energetic city centre in fifteen minutes on our rental bikes. Enjoy both sides of the coin.

The boat has two separate bedrooms with romantic windows and a double bed each. The sleeping sofa in the living room can sleep two extra people. In the old skippers room the authentic ‘bedstee’ (cupboardbed) is used as a single bed.

All you need is on board. There’s a tiny but romantic shower place in a hip bath (you can sit in it), and a normal toilet. The kitchen is basic but equipped with all cooking stuff, even oil and vinegar and herbs. Hot water is provided by a small boiler.

Enjoy your time together and chill. But please don’t make noise in the harbour, the water carries the sound very far. The owner of the harbour is very strict about it.

 FAQ

HOW DO WE GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO WAREHOUSE HOTEL?

From Schiphol Airport there’s a direct train to Amsterdam Central Station (CS) approximately every 10 minutes. Check the public transport planner 9292 for timetables. The train gets you to CS in 10 minutes.

You need a chip card: buy it at the yellow machines at the airport or at  GVB (communal public transport).

To get to the Cosy Classic Houseboat:

At Central Station you can take city bus nr. 32 (direction Buikslotermeerplein): the buses are upstairs on the riverside (the back side) of CS.

See our GETTING THERE page for detailed information on how to walk from the bus stop to the houseboat.

HOW DO WE GET THE KEYS? (CHECK IN - CHECK OUT)

We have a hostess, no reception. A few days before your stay, you let us know (around) what time you’ll arrive. The hostess will be there to hand you the keys. She’ll walk you through the location.
To check out, let us know again and we’ll be there to collect the keys. If you’ve had a great stay of if you want to share some suggestions with us, please tell us. We appreciate it.

WHERE CAN WE PARK OUR CARS?

There is a large free and guarded parking place in the harbour.

For the electronical gates, the night entrance and the guarded parking you need  a code. We’ll give it to you after booking.

Remember, all gates will be closed, so store the code somewhere smart! You need it as well when returning home at night.

Reminder: when ordering our rental bikes, please do so IN ADVANCE so we can make sure there are enough of them ready for you when you arrive.

CAN WE STAY FOR ONE NIGHT?

No. The Warehouse Hotel locations are apartments, not just one hotel room. We apply a minimum of two nights. Lean back and enjoy;)

ARE BED LINENS INCLUDED?

Yes, all bed clothing and blankets are included. The beds are made.

ARE TOWELS INCLUDED?

No. We don’t include towels anymore for environmental reasons, so people use their own towels more than once (it saves the planet a lot of washing).

You can order our TOWEL RENTAL SERVICE for € 2,- per towel. Please do reserve them in advance so we can put enough ready for you at your arrival. (And re-use them if possible. There’s plenty of space to hang them to dry.)

DO WE HAVE WIFI?

Naturally. You get the password at arrival.

IS THERE A: TOASTER – STEAM IRON - HAIR DRYER? (AND MORE FACILITIES)

Of course! Toast your bread, dry your hair, iron your shirts, all is available. The Warehouse Hotel locations may look rough and industrial, they’re actually detailed with many facilities to make you feel perfectly at home.

The fully equipped kitchens with restaurant quality stove make home cooking possible for larger groups. You can all have a coffee, breakfast or dinner together with some nice music on, playing on the stereo with mini-jack cable for MP3.

Although our rental bikes get you into town fast, our pool table and other playground accessories may keep you here;)

IS SMOKING ALLOWED?

Not in the bedrooms and preferably not inside the boats. The smell lingers around too long. For a smoke please take a relaxing moment on deck and enjoy the sun or the silence.

Just consider your neighbours on other ships in the area, since water carries the sound very far. The harbormaster is very strict about noise, especially after 10 PM. The party is in the city…

WILL CLEANING BE DONE?

Tidying up: please do so yourself.  Cleaning: yes, that’s our job.

We kindly ask you, to please tidy up as you would in your own house. Do the dishes and put them back in the cupboards. Use garbage bags for your trash. Thank you!

Afterwards the thorough cleaning, washing and making beds will be done by us. We charge a cleaning fee for it.

DO WE PAY A DEPOSIT?

Yes. We hope you appreciate the attention we put into creating the Warehouse Hotel locations. We assume that you’ll keep the place as neat and original as you found it. But accidents can happen…

IS THERE A SUPERMARKET NEARBY?

It’s smart to do some shopping on forehand, since the houseboat is located in the green area of Amsterdam North. However, by bike you can reach a supermarket in 7-10 minutes.

First: for bread and croissants you can go down Nieuwendammerdijk towards the centre (go left after leaving the gate). At the end of the street on your left hand you’ll find a very good bakery. It’s a nice 10 minutes walk / 3 minutes bike ride.

The big supermarkets ‘Dirk van de Broek’ and ‘Foodmarkt’ are easy to reach by bike. At the end of Nieuwendammerdijk (near the bakery), turn left at the large road Meeuwenlaan. (There, you pass the best icecreamshop in town, opposite the roundabout). Go straight on, pass the big crossing till you see the red and white signs of ‘Dirk van den Broek’ on the left. A little before that you can go left and get to Foodmarkt, which is a real experience (they have real cheap but good cappuccino’s too; read this article about it)

When you keep on following Meeuwenlaan you get to the east-ferry IJplein that’ll bring you to town. (Timetables here).

A shopping mall (outdoors) is at Mall Boven ‘t IJ at Buikslotermeerplein 305 (10 minutes biking), check route here

TRANSPORT – HOW DO WE GET INTO TOWN - BY BIKE?

Public bus 32 will get you to Central Station.

You need a chip card: buy it in the bus or at GVB (communal public transport).

To the bus stop:

Leaving the gate of the harbour, turn left. After 30 meters, go right into the little street: Brede Kerkepad. It goes down the dike. At the bottom, turn left at the bigger road (you pass the little church on your left hand). Walk straight ahead for 50 meters and you’re there. Take the bus at the opposite side of the street (it goes to the left) for heading to Central Station.

(see timetable buses).

Public transport planner 9292 also has an App (9292) for mobile that works great (if you know a street name you’re heading to).
Trams on the east side of CS tend to go past Dam Square, Rokin, Munt, Rembrandtplein, Waterlooplein. Trams on the west side of CS mostly go behind Dam Sq and go to Leidseplein etc.

ARE THERE ENOUGH RENTAL BIKES FOR OUR GROUP?

Yes, we have lots of bikes available. You need to reserve them in advance, so we can have them ready at your location when you arrive. They cost € 10,- per bike per day.

TRANSPORT – HOW DO WE GET INTO TOWN BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT?

Public city buses 34 and 35 (white and blue) and some more public red buses will get you to Central Station fast. You need a chip card: buy it in the bus or at GVB (communal public transport).

To the nearest bus stop:

Leaving the Warehouse, go left twice and head for the bigger street Papaverweg. Go right and walk towards the water on your right hand. Continue walking on the right side of the road. At the traffic lights, cross over to the left, where you see and pass a little church. Now you can see the right bus stop at the big street Kamperfoelieweg. The buses drive to the right. Almost all of them go to Central Station; check their sign on the front.

At CS you’ll find a network of trams, subways and buses to get around. Public transport planner 9292 also has an App (9292) for mobile that works great (if you know the street name you’re heading to).
Trams on the east side of CS tend to go past Dam Square, Rokin, Munt, Rembrandtplein, Waterlooplein. Trams on the west side of CS mostly go behind Dam Sq and go to Leidseplein etc.

DID I HEAR SOMETHING ABOUT BOAT TRIPS?

Yes! Amsterdam is looking great from the canals. We have an open outboard motor-boat available for trips on the canals. (Only from April till October). It seats max. 8 to 10 people.

You can rent it with a driver:

  • Skipper: €20,- per hour +
  • Boat: € 20,- per hour. Minimum 3 hours.
  • Excluding petrol. That means: you get a full tank, you return it with a full tank
  • Without a driver, whole day (9 AM – 5 PM) € 120,- , ex petrol. Experience needed.

Please let us know if you’re interested. We can make the boat ready for you.
