GETTING AROUND

GETTING AROUND

COOL PLACES & RESTAURANTS AROUND

Amsterdam North is the raw, industrial, spacious side of Amsterdam. We will help you find the hotspots here.

Some great, classy restaurants are situated at the IJ-river (EYE, STORK, Goudfazant), but you can also find some edgy places close by too.

Check the latest ‘where-to-go’ or ‘what-to-do’ on www.ilovenoord.com

De Ceuvel – organic café-restaurant

wwww.cafedeceuvel.nl

From the INDUSTRIAL WAREHOUSE: take a look across the water and you can see the place: De Ceuvel.
Do yourself a favour and go to this great freedomlovers-place where the people experiment with organic local foods, recycling materials, environmental techniques like a biogas boat and more. Like Yoga classes.

Just walk around the block: pass the second hand store and go right into the lane.

EYE Filmmuseum & bar-restaurant

Chique, grand, with a superb view. Coffee, Lunch & Dinner.

And the best movies of course!

Tolhuistuin

The squares building near the ferry. Great view over the water, nice terrace.
Nice, new combinations of finger foods, a varied program of music, theatre, dance, visual arts, media and literature.

Programmed bij pop-temple Paradiso.

Hotel de De Goudfazant

Fantastic, beautiful, industrial, high end, and great food, with a view on the IJ.

Amsterdam North shore, direction West:
NDSM dock (old ship wharf, industrial & creative).

5 Minutes by bike: Go left on Papaverweg, follow all the way (even when you think you’re getting nowhere) until you get to the new bridge over the small water.

First on your left:

Noorderlicht café

www.noorderlichtcafe.nl

Unique location: a semi-glass half pipe on the waterside with great terrace (bonfires on summer evenings). Organic food, homemade, not too expensive.

Second on your left:

PLLEK

Industrial containers on a city beach resulted in this breakfast-lunch-dinner-restaurant, looking out over IJ-river.

Great smoothies too.

ROUTES TO THE CITY CENTRE

BIG WAREHOUSE & INDUSTRIAL WAREHOUSE  >  CITY CENTRE

To walk / bike: leaving the Warehouse, head for the bigger street Papaverweg and go right.

Pass the water on your right hand. Continue straight on the right side of the road.

At the traffic lights, cross the big street Kamperfoelieweg and go right on the other side.

Follow the red biking path, cross the viaduct and follow the bending path to the right.

There you get to Van der Pekstraat.

=On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays a fresh market place is occupying the middle part of the road.

Follow the biking path right to the end, go straight on and bend to the right. You already see the water there.

At the end of it you see the big water IJ. On your right are

Eye Film Institute and the cool ADAM Tower with restaurants and a club.

FREE FERRY
From here you need the ferry (‘pont’ in Dutch) to get over the ‘IJ’ to Central (Train) Station (901: CS – Buiksloterweg).

The ferries are free of charge and go day and night.
This one goes every 6 minutes daily and every 12 minutes all night. You can just wait for the next one to arrive but if you want, check
timetables.

TIP: The app called PONTVEER (Dutch) counts down the minutes you have left to get to your ferry of choice.

It’s in Dutch but easy to understand.

HISTORICAL HOUSEBOAT & COSY CLASSIC HOUSEBOAT  >  CITY CENTRE
Leaving the harbour gate, turn left on Nieuwendammerdijk.

Follow this typical old Dutch dike-road all the way through.

At the end of Nieuwendammerdijk (past the bakery), turn left at the large road Meeuwenlaan by crossing over the roundabout.

(There, you pass the best icecreamshop in Amsterdam North).

Go all the way straight on, pass the next roundabout. You bicicle on, passing supermarket ‘Dirk van den Broek’ on the left, with it’s red and white signs.

FREE FERRY

When you keep on following Meeuwenlaan you get to the east-ferry IJplein that’ll bring you to town.

Make sure you take the ferry with destination Central Station. (Timetables here).

TIP: The app called PONTVEER (Dutch) counts down the minutes you have left to get to your ferry of choice. It’s in Dutch but easy to understand.

CAR PARK

Warehouses
At each of the Warehouses, two private parking spaces in front of the building are included.

But in the district of Amsterdam North parking in the streets is also free of charge.

When staying at the houseboat, there is guarded car park in the harbour.

The code for the electronic gate will be given to you after booking.

In Amsterdam, transport by bicycle is a must! And parking a car in the centre is an expensive nightmare.

Please order bikes in advance so we can make sure enough of them are ready for you when you arrive.
